Sony × TSMC — $6.3B Image Sensor Joint Venture for Physical AI

Sony Group and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company finalized plans for a joint venture with a capital commitment of approximately 1 trillion yen ($6.32 billion) to build an advanced image sensor fabrication facility in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, targeting next-generation chips for autonomous vehicles, industrial robotics, and physical AI applications, with commercial production starting as early as 2029.
